About Aiko & Mumu
The Story Behind Day and Night
Mumu is a boy born in the United States, on Valentine’s Day.
At eighteen, he travels to Japan.
There, he meets Aiko.
They return to America together and begin an ordinary life—
working during the day, learning how to endure,
finding small moments of quiet happiness along the way.
During the day, food is simple.
It supports the rhythm of everyday life.
At night, something changes.
Aiko begins to miss Japan—
the counter, the rice, the quiet focus of sushi made by hand.
Mumu cooks for her.
Sometimes they go out.
Sometimes he prepares omakase at home.
Not as a performance,
but as a way to take care of someone.
This is why there is day and night.
Aiko belongs to the everyday.
Mumu belongs to the quiet hours after.
Not because they are different worlds,
but because they are part of the same life.
